The 160º view of Main Beach and beyond from the tower's top floor just after sunrise.

Whether a central meeting point for family and friends, people watching or just catching a sunset, the historic lifeguard tower remains one of Laguna’s favorite places and best known landmark. With the tower’s three floors having the combined square footage of a good sized walk-in closet, the tower doubled as the entire lifeguard department’s headquarters for a portion of the ‘70s and ‘80s. The top floor is for supervisor observation during the summer lifeguarding season. The boardwalk level is for first-aid treatment and supplies while the subterranean level stores paddleboards and rescue tubes.

Visitors wait for another perfect sunset.
The afterglow of a winter sunset and the southern tip of Catalina Island is reflected in the tower window.
