Breakers fell to defending champion Mira Costa 2-1 on Saturday, May 21, at the Ocean Park Courts in Santa Monica for the 2016 AAU Interscholastic Beach Volleyball Championships. Breaker’s top team of Cameron Dorn and Katelyn Carballo lost to the Mustang’s Emma Smith and Piper Monk in three, while Lexi McKeown and Katie Gavin won their match over Rio Frohoff and Avery Hazelrigg. Mira Costa won the third seed as Presley Forbes/Sunny Villapando edged Laguna’s Kendyl Brennan/Lauren LaMontagne 21-16, 21-19 for the title.

The Breaker’s Saturday started early with a win over previously undefeated Westlake, handing the Warriors (11-1) their first loss. In the semifinals, Breakers defeated Saddleback Valley Christian for the second time in three tries to earn the spot in the finals. League web site: www.ibvl.org
