Editor,

Peggy Wolff –

Motivated.

Optimistic.

Match to Our Needs.

“What’s not to like about Peggy? She’s great!”

I lifted those words from an opposing letter to the editor. The only portion of the letter I agreed with, frankly.

I have witnessed Peggy Wolff’s involvement in our schools for years. She will be the perfect addition to our existing board. Peggy brings long-range perspective, fiscal responsibility and optimism to LBUSD’s challenging future. Challenging because so much of what LBUSD has enacted has amounted to success. Challenging because a clear view of the future has never been more elusive.

School is different today. It seems obvious doesn’t it? Our current board members understand the impact of technology on the classroom and the budgets. Benefitting from Peggy raising her children in the midst of these technological advances is what the board needs. We parents have watched typing class turning into B.Y.O.D. (bring your own device). Peggy is living these complex changes. Classrooms look different. Teachers teach with new tools and students learn in ways most never thought possible. I believe our best school board members grasp these advancements by living them. Not by attending some meetings and reading some articles.

Striking a balance. LBHS supported more than 900 rostered athletes last year.  Our school board believes, as does Peggy Wolff, these athletes deserve the best facilities, coaches and competition we can offer them. Peggy also understands these opportunities should never come at the cost of academics. She has vowed to help our schools strike the perfect balance.

A new, highly motivated superintendent and assistant superintendent, combined with motivated, well-trained, enthusiastic and well-supported teachers and staff will have the biggest impact short-term on our children’s education.

Peggy understands this. She brings context to school board decision-making and will be a positive contributor and steward because of it.

Peggy, unlike the approach others may have, brings optimism, understanding, classroom experience, fiscal understanding, teamwork skills and strong, thoughtful action to our board.  We in the community have a great opportunity this election to recognize these invaluable skills and greet her with the same optimism and support by voting to add just one new member to our board and that person is Peggy Wolff.

Thank you, Peggy, for signing up for the challenge.
