Depending on their family’s household size and income, children enrolled in the Laguna Beach Unified School District may be eligible for free or reduced-price lunches.

Families who are eligible need to re-enroll in the program each year, said district spokeswoman Leisa Winston. The district’s policy to determine eligibility is available at each school office and applications are available on the district website and in principal’s offices, Winston said. For instance, the child of a single parent earning $15,300 a year would qualify for free lunch, according to the district policy.

About 256 local students are enrolled in the National School Lunch Program, about 8.25 percent of enrollment, Winston said. “Participation has increased slightly over the last few years,” she said.
