Laguna’s schools added two new feathers to their cap.
All four schools, El Morro Elementary, Top of the World Elementary, Thurston Middle School and Laguna Beach High School, were among 1,614 public schools in the state to make the 2011 honor roll of the California Business for Education Excellence (CBEE).
Laguna’s schools made the honor roll as recipients of the Scholar Schools Award, which is given to schools that have demonstrated consistent high levels of student academic achievement, improvement in achievement levels over time and reduction in achievement gaps among student populations. Superintendent Sherine Smith called the honor roll recognition “a reflection of the dedication and hard work of our employees, the vision of our school board, and the support of our community.”
Nationally, LBHS was ranked one of the nation’s best high schools once again by U.S. News & World Report. Across the country, 21,776 public high schools were reviewed in compiling the rankings, and 577 schools made the grade in California.
LBHS, ranked 113 in the state and 589 in the nation, earned an 884 API score, which represents an increase of 63 points over the past five years and far exceeds the 800 state benchmark for excellence.
