New Sculpture Adds to Campus Collection

“Nureyev Heroic,” a donation installed recently at Laguna College of Art + Design.

The life-size sculpture, “Nureyev Heroic,” on long-term loan from renowned sculptor Richard MacDonald, was recently added to the Laguna College of Art & Design campus.

MacDonald’s work has been showcased in numerous one-man exhibitions and is featured in private collections including those of former U.S. President Bill Clinton, Dean Koontz, Leann Rimes and Luciano Pavarotti.

He is represented by numerous galleries including Laguna Beach’s Dawson Cole Fine Art, formerly his own namesake gallery.

“The college’s figurative tradition in drawing, painting and sculpture fits perfectly with MacDonald aesthetic to focus on the human form,” said LCAD President Jonathan Burke.

MacDonald also donated the bronze sculpture “Sissone Atelier,” valued at $3,800 to Collector’s Choice, the college’s annual fundraising auction, set for Saturday, June 9.
