Principal Jennifer Salberg, second from left, and teacher Leah Prettyman along with advisor Michael Bair, third from right, turn over student donations to firefighters, from left, Jeff Priest, Deputy Chief Jeff LaTendresse, Capt. Steve Rening and Tyler Swets.

For the third consecutive year, Thurston Middle School students have participated in the Spark of Love Toy Drive with the city’s Fire Department.

Student leaders coordinated the school-wide effort. “This year, with the incredible support of the leadership class, TMS has collected nearly 200 toys, our biggest donation yet!” said leadership teacher Leah Prettyman, “Thank you Thurston families for your continued support of this important annual event.”

“Thurston’s contributions were incredible and the largest organized donation that we have received this year,” said Division Chief Dan Stefano, who added that donations are still considerably down from past year’s collections.

Firefighters will continue to accept unwrapped gifts at any of the city’s four fire stations through Dec. 24 for distribution to the less fortunate.
