Stage, Screen Veteran Adds a Confessional Performance

Rex Smith, starring in a current Laguna Playhouse production, will also star in a one-night only performance of “Confessions of a Teen Idol,” at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25.

The performance by the one-time teen heartthrob includes tales about everything from the extreme pressures of a six-album deal as a platinum Columbia Records recording artist to behind-the-scenes stories of life on television and the stages of Broadway.

A Double Bill of Theater and Therapy

Veteran television and film actors Eileen Galindo and Dee Dee Rescher read “J’oy vey” on Tuesday, Oct. 27, a comedy about two grandmas visiting their grandchildren during the Christmas and Chanukah season.

The play by Lojo Simon and Anita Simons is directed by Jenny Sullivan, who last directed the Laguna Playhouse performance of “Love, Loss and What I Wore.” Laguna Beach actor Ava Burton will give stage directions

The reading takes place at the Sandra Jones Campbell Studio, 2173 Laguna Canyon Road, as part of a reading series by Art Wow’s Bare Bones Theatre. Art Wow is led by Burton, actor Mark Miller and playwright Lojo Simon.

Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets, $20-25, are available by calling 858 349-4582 and include a wine bar.

The reading will be followed by a brief discussion about the themes in the play led by therapist Roxanne Cherry of Laguna Niguel.
