A former Laguna resident in the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s, Stephen Lee Runnalls died suddenly from a heart attack on July 7, 2015, in Puerto Penasco, Mexico, where he had lived for more than two years.

Born on Jan. 10, 1944 in Los Angeles to Eugene and Gladys Runnalls, Steve grew up with his four siblings Gary, Jerry, Greg and Brenda, in Manhattan Beach, Calif.

Steve went to Aviation High and was accepted to Pepperdine University on a football scholarship, but while on a surf trip to Hawaii met his first wife Patricia. She helped him start a very successful modeling and acting career that spanned three decades.

They had two children, Scott (52) and Chelsea (47) who spent their early childhood years in Laguna before moving to Aspen, Colo. A third son Kyle (30) was born to Steve and his second wife Allison.

When you saw Steve, you were immediately aware of his presence.  And not just because he was so handsome and strong, but because he enjoyed all types of people and would draw them in with his humor, kindness, deep loving heart, passion for life and gentle nature.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015, at 1 p.m. at Faith Presbyterian Church, 5000 Colfax Ave., in Valley Village, Calif.

Please join Steve’s family and many friends in celebrating his life.

  1. Steve was my uncle and we lived together for around a year in 2012-13 and kept in touch after that. I miss him everyday. He was funny, humble, helpful and while my dad died, Steve filled me in with true family history and I’ll always be grateful for that. He really was a gifted athlete and his sense of humor was epic like no other. Miss ya buddy.
