Tim Wirkus, winner of the 2013 Quarterly West novella contest, will discuss and sign his debut novel, “City of Brick and Shadow,” at 6 p.m. Thursday Jan. 15, at Laguna Beach Books, 1200 S. Coast Highway.
The 31-year-old author lives in Irvine and is working on his doctorate at USC. At 19, Wirkus ventured off to São Paulo, Brazil, where he spent the next two years as a Mormon missionary. His book captures his unique experiences of serving as a missionary in South America and combines it with his passion for crime fiction.
