Girls Water Polo (29-0)

The juggernaut continued towards the team goal of a second straight Division I crown as Southern California’s most dominant team of all time crushed their first two opponents as expected. On Wednesday, Feb. 18 at the Laguna Community Pool, Laguna rolled to a 10-1 first quarter lead and ultimately defeating Villa Park 24-4. Twelve players scored at least one goal led by Makenzie Fischer with four goals and five steals. Mia Salvini added three scores as did Aria Fischer. Among the freshmen, Evan Tingler scored twice, Sophia Lucas once, Delaney Gendron twice and Isabel Riches once.

 

In Saturday’s quarterfinal contest played at Newport Harbor, Laguna crushed Los Alamitos 18-5 after leading 17-2 before clearing the bench. Makenzie Fischer (with six goals) and Aria Fischer (with four) dominated the Griffins with great support from Natalie Selin (two goals, three assists), Mia Salvini (four assists and a goal) and Bella Baldridge (three assists and a goal).

 

Breakers faced Corona del Mar this past Wednesday in the semifinals and should advance to the championship game (Foothill or Newport Harbor) scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Woollett Center adjacent to Irvine High School and admission will be charged.
