Lost hiker found safe

Kevin Meehan, 61, of Laguna Beach became separated from friends and lost his way during a Memorial Day hike in the Cleveland National Forest was back home safe thanks to the work of a Riverside County rescue team, City News Service reported.

Meehand lost track of his companions in a section of the forest just south of Corona, according to the sheriff’s department.

 

Thieves in Local Jewelry Heist Sentenced

The last two of 12 defendants from a North San Diego County street gang were sentenced last week for their role in a 2009 crime spree involving the armed robbery of two Orange County jewelry stores, including one in Laguna Beach, identity theft, and street terrorism.

Michael Burgin, 32, with two prior felony convictions, was sentenced to 90 years in state prison, while Adam Weick, 31, was sentenced to 21 years. Both were convicted of an array of felony counts in January.

 

Tuesday, May 22

Traffic collision. 2:22 p.m. Laguna Canyon Road. The drivers of two vehicles suffered minor injuries when one failed to stop for a red light and broadsided the other. The road was briefly closed to clear debris.

Vandalism. 2 p.m. 32200 block Coast Hwy. Three girls were cited for vandalism. Further details were unavailable.

Stolen vehicle. 900 block of Catalina St. 2:37 p.m. Anthony Lawrence Kushner, 31, of  Anaheim, and Beau Joseph Bustillos Lawson, 32, of Fullerton, were both arrested for suspicion of possessing tar heroin. The men were pulled over after a resident reported someone attempting to steal a car and an officer spotted drug paraphernalia. A drug-sniffing dog led police to their car’s air conditioning vents. Bail wa set at $20,000 each.

Fraud.. 500 block S. Coast Hwy, 2.53 p.m. Customers used a fraudulent credit card to charge $1,700 worth of merchandise.

Burglary.. 3000 block Mountain View Dr. Sometime within the past three months someone entered a garage and took some documents in storage.

 

Thursday, May 24

DUI 200 block Anita St. 5:19 p.m. A 37-year-old El Dorado Hills man was arrested for DUI and held for $2,500 bail.

 

Friday, May 25

H&S activity. 300 block Club Dr. 10 juvies detained. One was cited or smoking pot.

Traffic stop. 9:59 p.m. 200 block of Fairview St. A 46-year-old Costa Mesa man was cited for FUI and held for $2,500 nail.

Traffic stop. 11:46 p.m. Catalina. Michael Patrick Joyce, 33, of Laguna Beach was arrested for suspicion of DUI and held for $10,000 bail due to a prior conviction.

 

Saturday, May 26

Traffic stop. 1:17 a.m. 200 block N Coast Hwy. A 25-year-old Azusa man was cited for . DUI and held for $2,500 bail.

Traffic stop. 2:07 a.m. Montage Resort Dr. An 18-year-old girl was arrested for DUI and held for $2500 bail.

Missing person. 7:47 a.m. 400 block of Arroyo Chico. After checking hospitals and jails at the request of co-workers, police finally broke into the home of a 44-year-old man who went home sick and found him dead, apparently from natural causes.

Vandalism. 9:43 a.m. 600 block of Catalina St. Two cars were keyed.

Traffic collision. 600 block of Anita St. A 23-year-old Mission Viejo man was arrested for DUI after hitting a parked vehicle.

Assault.. PD. 7:17 p.m. A homeless man said he was beaten up while in a sculpture garden.

Traffic stop. 8:44 p.m. Galen Dr. Juan Alberto Castro Ramos, 33, of Tustin, was arrested for providing false information to police and DUI, his third offens. Bail was set at $15,000.

Traffic stop. 10:07 p.m. Irvine Cove. A 47-year-old Laguna Beach man was cited for DUI and held for $2500 bail.

 

Sunday, May 27

ped stop. 12:27 a.m. 3200 block Alta Laguna Blvd. A 17-year-old male was detained for possession of Xanax.

Traffic stop. 12:37 a.m. Wesley Dr. A 28-year-old from Laguna Niguel was cited for DUI and held for $2,500 bail.

Traffic stop. 1:54 a.m. Montage Resort Dr. A 29-year-old from Laguna Beach was arrested for DUI.

Traffic stop. 3:06 a.m. Laguna Ave. A 31-year-old Newport Coast man was cited for DUI and held for $2,500 bail

Fight. 6:20 a.m. 20600 block of Laguna Canyon Rd. A victim with minor abrasion on his head was transported for treatment.

Trespassing. 1:22 p.m. 300 block of Forest Ave. Two homeless people sleeping in post office in back mail box room were cited.

Hit and run. 6:32 p.m. Pearl St. A motorcyclist suffered a broken hand and abrasions after being struck by a white BMW that hit another vehicle and fled the area.

Lifeguard rescue. 7:40 p.m. Main Beach. A female paddled to shore in a kayak to call for a tow for a sailboat with a ripped sale.

Vehicle burglary. 8:06 p.m. 30800 block of Coast Hwy. Unknown point of entry. Loss is laptop, credit cards, cash. $1930.

 

Monday, May 28

Vandalism. 4:21 a.m. 300 block of Coast Hwy. Front windshield is smashed.

Grand theft. 8:52 a.m.. 1300 block of Terrace Way. A laptop valued at $1,000 disappeared after a party.
