Grand theft. 300 block of N. Coast Hwy. 8:12 a.m. An Italian plaster frieze valued at $6,000 disappeared from a business over the weekend.

Tuesday, Aug. 23

Remote rescue. West Ridge Road. 8 p.m. A bicyclist discovered a dehydrated hiker in need of assistance. After assistance from a helicopter, the patient was loaded onto vehicle and driven out by 8:42 p.m.

Wednesday, Aug. 24

Suspicious activity. 600 block of Cliff Dr. 7:25 a.m. A 19-year-old was cited for possession of alcohol.

Paramedic. 300 block of Camden Place. 10:01 a.m. A tow truck driver loading a Maserati escaped injury by jumping out of the way when a cable broke and the vehicle rolled into wall near a home.

Automated license plate reader. Coast Hwy. 3:44 p.m. Officers were unable to locate a vehicle, which a caller described as being driven by a burglar that had fled from a nearby residence and dropped a safe when confronted.

Supplemental report. 700 block of Balboa Ave. 3:59 p.m. A theft victim reported several more missing paintings.

Thursday, Aug. 25

Vandalism. 12:22 a.m. 200 block of N. Coast Hwy. A window of a vehicle was smashed.

Suspicious circumstances. 700 block of Bolsana Dr. 3:27 a.m. Someone got into an unlocked vehicle and opened the garage door. A checkbook is missing.

Vandalism. 21500 block of Ocean Vista Dr. 8:34 a.m. 50 feet of shrubbery in a sideyard was been trimmed without authorization.

Stolen vehicle. 300 block of Loma Terrace. 8:42 a.m. A woman who reported partying with two men the night before discovered her car, containing a computer, had been stolen. The BMW was tracked to and recovered on Wesley Drive.

Grand theft. 2700 block of S. Coast Hwy. 11:13 a.m. An Airbnb host, who rented out his premises for four days, reported the loss of $192,000 in cash and gold coins from a home safe.

Robbery. 200 block of Ocean Ave. 12:44 p.m. Detectives are trying to identify a man who shoplifted sunglasses valued at $445 and then struggled with the shopkeeper who confronted him.

Petty theft. 400 block of Mountain Rd. 1:20 p.m. An iPod and shave kit valued at $225 were taken from locked vehicle.

Fraudulent. 30800 block of S. Coast Hwy. 1:50 p.m. A fraudulent prescription was reported.

Disturbance. Wesley Drive. 5:53 p.m. A 28-year-old Mission Viejo man arrested for being drunk in public was suspected of throwing bricks at cars.

Friday, Aug. 26

Occupied vehicle. Glenneyre St. 3:30 a.m. Juan Mannon, 37, of Garden Grove, was cited for three vehicle code warrants.

Grand theft. 1500 block of S. Coast Hwy. 10:57 a.m. Details were unavailable about the reported $6,300 loss from a room.

Pedestrian stop.

DUI. 1700 block of Coast Hwy. 10:48 p.m. Despite the efforts of people trying to stop a diner from driving, a 71-year-old Palm Desert man was later arrested for DUI as well as an additional charge for having an excessive blood alcohol level.

Sunday, Aug. 28

Municipal code violation. 31500 block of Bluff Dr. 8 p.m. Beach patrol officers detained beach goers for a fire; one person in possession of pot fled before sworn officers arrived.
