Students Brighten Spirits in Music, Song, Dance

Local students perform holiday music in several performances over coming weeks, beginning outside City Hall at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, during Hospitality Night.

A more formal concert takes place at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, at the Artists’ Theatre. Music teacher, Jon Mann, will conduct the middle school’s band and string orchestra.

Jazz teacher Roger Shew will conduct the jazz band, whose set ranges from Michael Jackson to Count Basie to hip-hop.

A $5 donation is welcome and will be used to enhance the middle school’s instrumental music program.

The high school dance department’s concert “Shift,” takes the stage Friday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 13, at 3 and 7 p.m. The concert is choreographed by the school’s new dance teacher, Estee Carrizosa, along with dance teacher Samantha Hampton, guest choreographers Leann Alduenda, Erika Fernandez, Kathy Kahn, and Michael Perez, LBHS student choreographers, and special guests, the Kyne Dance Academy.

Tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door, $10 general admission.

Teacher Jeremy Chung will conduct the wind and string ensembles in the LBHS Winter Instrumental Concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16. Shew also conducts the jazz orchestra in a Hanukkah Medley, holiday classics and works by Geoff Keezer and Dizzy Gillespie.

Audiences will also hear the debut of an original work, “Seasons of Swing,” by high school senior Kenji Lee. Attendance is free and donations are welcome.

The middle and high school Winter Choral Concert is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. Roxanna Ward will direct the program that will feature madrigals, jazz, and traditional holiday favorites. A suggested donation of $5 for students and seniors and $10 for adults is welcome.

All performances are in the Artists’ Theatre, 625 Park Ave., except where noted. The box office number is 949 497-7769.
