Laguna Beach High School and Capistrano Unified School District ROP students were honored at the recent Distinguished Student Recognition ceremony, which was held at San Juan Hills High School in San Juan Capistrano. About 4,500 students in the Capistrano and Laguna Beach school districts are enrolled in Regional Occupational Program (ROP) classes, which are classes that provide practical, hands-on career preparation and career guidance.

Students were honored in five career pathways: art and design, business and marketing, health sciences, public services, and science and applied technology. The top 20 award-winning students received scholarship awards totaling $11,000. Laguna school board member and president of the ROP board, Betsey Jenkins, said “this year nearly 60 students were chosen as finalists across the full spectrum of course offering. These kids are all great students and are passionate about their education and their future career paths. Hearing the personal stories of the winners usually makes me shed a few tears, and this year was no exception.”

LBHS students Cody Alter received the Entrepreneurial Spirit Award and Emily Writer received the LBUSD Distinguished Student of the Year Award.
