Eight Laguna Beach High School students were announced as division winners of the school’s annual PTA “Reflections” arts contest and will advance to the regional level of this national competition: they are Karina Parker for dance choreography; filmmaker Austin Fickman; Molly McMillen and Moorea Howson in literature; Blake Allard for musical composition, photographer Anika Larsen; and Kevin Sasaki and Eric Curras in visual arts.
LBHS PTA Reflections Chairman Jacquie Cohn’s efforts to promote awareness of the program and encourage greater participation this year resulted in a record number student entries for LBHS. The Orange County Department of Education will host an open house gallery and reception Feb. 2 featuring the winning entries at 200 Kalmus Dr., Building A, in Costa Mesa, and is open to the public.
Awards of merit at LBHS went to Tyler Fisher for literature; Dreeana Blue and Iris Wang for photography; and Alexandra Eftimie, Kennedi Gherardini, and Natalia Law for visual arts. Students receiving honorable mentions were Nicole Doiron and Cory Kent for photography; and Emily Deremo, Alexandra Lindsay, and Katie Silva-Grizzle for visual arts.
