Youth Service America and The Walt Disney Company awarded $500 to the 10 Boys Who Care, a group of local students who for the past five years have raised money to award good sportsmanship scholarships to high school seniors.

Last year, because of their success fundraising, the boys helped the athletic department of Godinez High School in Santa Ana with a $500 gift to ensure all kids could play their chosen sport.

Sam Reynolds, one of the 10 Boys, applied to YSA and Disney with the goal of repeating their $500 gift to Godinez, a member of the Orange Coast League where Laguna athletes also compete. “We heard that some students at other schools have financial problems limiting their ability to play high school sports,” said Sam in a statement.

Sam recently received word that the boys would receive a $500 Disney Be Inspired Grant. “We received an overwhelming number of wonderful applications, and your project, Every Kid Should Play, stood out to us as one of the best in the country,” an email said. “I thought Every Kid Should Play was a great idea for the Disney grant,” Sam said. “How great that Disney and YSA thought so, too!”
