Deep Thoughts

Etsy, Amazon and Shippers

Many things are shipped in the United States these days. They are always trying to con us with this “handling charge.” I understand what it costs to ship something, but what is the cost of this handling charge. They never tell you, they lump it in with the shipping charge. I don’t want it. I don’t like the idea that a lot of people are handling something I’m going to buy before I get it. Can I please have a discount if you don’t handle my stuff before you send it to me?

Laguna Parking

What happens to all the parking money they collect in Laguna Beach? Maybe they should build more parking spots so they can collect more money. Why do residents have to pay? Our taxes paid for the meters, stickers and ticket writers. Give us a break.

Dogs

I’ve been bitten by two dogs in the last three weeks. Still, the average dog is a nicer person than the average person.

Truck drivers

The drivers of trucks have for years had these signs on them saying “call this number if the driver is discourteous.” I’ve wanted to call one of those numbers for years, but the drivers are always driving too fast for me read the number. Anyone have it?

Pedestrian free streets and parklets

Many of the world’s greatest cities have benefited greatly from car-free streets. In 1964 Copenhagen was one the first. The auto-free zone in Copenhagen is a great tourist attraction and offers plentiful outdoor sidewalk cafes, fast food, specialty shops, street entertainment, theatres, museums and much more. Day and night there’s always something to see and do. Asked today, locals and business owners can’t imagine having cars back on the street. Existing in many cities, big and small throughout the world, it seems eventually we will realize that people should come before cars. With the will we can find a place for the newly misplaced cars. The old school, automobile age Curmplainers who are categorically opposed and vocal, may take note that one should keep his words both soft and tender, because tomorrow he may have to eat them.

Whining about waiters

When a waiter asks me if I would like any fresh ground pepper, I want to ask if they have any aged pepper.

Headache from opening aspirin

Are you supposed to put the cotton back in the pill bottle after taking out a pill?

Laguna Streets

Why did they make Laguna with so many hilly streets? It’s a pain. Adding to it, we have a circuitry of duplicate street names. Laguna has a Temple Hills, Temple Terrace and a Terrace Way. We also have Alta Vista and an Alta Laguna. There is a Summit Way and a Summit Drive. There is a Third Avenue and Third Street.

Food Falsery

Why do hamburgers, tacos or donuts never look at the restaurant the way you saw them on the commercial last night?

July fourth Predictions

One of the things we can be sure of is news reports will soon keep telling us how many people will die in car accidents over the Fourth of July

Taxes and voting in 2016

Taxes are important. Voters often approve of taxes that benefit the kind of people they wish they were one of.

Laguna Teachers

Most of us will end up with five or six people who will remember us when we die. Teachers have thousands who will remember them the rest of their lives.

Class of 2016

The first day of the rest of your lives starts now. To my son, Mason, I wish you the best with your new college life in Belgium. Your sense of humor, dedication to aspiration in making the world less complicated, more right and less wrong is what the world needs now. “Bopper,” a great pleasure in life is doing what people say can’t be done. This is your particular strength. To all the friends of Mason’s who have spent time at our house over the years, good bye and good luck. Your energy will be missed. The world needs your brains, wit and ingenuity. Laguna will be less without you.

Ciao for now.
