Thurston’s Surfers Place Second


The Thurston Middle School surf team came in second place to San Clemente’s Shorecliffs team at the third Scholastic Surf Series contest at Oceanside Pier on Saturday, Feb. 21.

Thirteen Thurston students made the finals. The highlight of the contest was in the girls division I short board with three of six finalists from Thurston: Kayla Coscino, Kelly Smith and Claire Kelly took second, third and fourth, respectively. Another highlight was Liv Stokes who won first place for girls division I long board along with Lola Fisher in sixth place.

Here are the results for the Thurston Team:

Division 1:

Boys Short Board: Jonah Clark 6th

Boys Long Board: Jameson Roller 5th

Girls Short Board: Kayla Coscino 2nd, Kelly Smith 3rd, Claire Kelly 4th

Girls Long Board: Liv Stokes 1st, Lola Fisher 6th

Bodyboard: Cole Fink 2nd

Division 2:

Boys Short Board: Jett North 5th

Boys Long Board: Matt Blunk 2nd and Alex Wick 6th

Girls Short Board: Grace Fink 2nd and Destiny Rae Thompson 3rd

Girls Long Board: Cici Stewart 2nd
