The plaque will be placed by a majestic Monterey pine Lawrence  planted in 1960. Ribbon cutting will be done by a Laguna Beach official and his widow, Zahide Lawrence.

For the previous five years, the city honored Lawrence’s Oct. 1 birthday with a party and cake for the public at Main Beach. Among his many contributions, he took pride in his role in removing structures that lined the Main Beach boardwalk.

Lawrence died last year. “We are honoring his memory on his special day,” said organizer Joanne Sutch.

Following the ceremony, soon to open Selanne Steak Tavern hosts a reception and promises a sneak peek, Sutch said.
