Three local girls competed at the annual volleyball festival in Phoenix recently and their team finished undefeated at 11-0. The event was attended by 532 teams from as far away as Puerto Rico and Canada. Southern California had a very strong showing, earning gold Medals in the 13, 15, 16 and 17 age groups.
Gigi Morally, Alexandra Murphy, and Sevana Dvorak were invited to play on the team of 10, a combination of players from Tustin Volleyball Club and Laguna’s 900 Square Feet Volleyball Club.
Five-nine outside hitter Gigi Morally, 6’ opposite Alexandra Murphy and 5’9” setter Sevana Dvorak brought unique skills and abilities to an already strong team. The hybrid team marched through pool play undefeated. They lost only two games in bracket play, but never lost a single match through four days of competition.
Coach Mark Roberts said, “They were hungry and simply needed to be pointed in the right direction. They never let go. They never let a team back in. They never blew a lead. It is clear, their future is bright.”
