Unintended Racism Sprouts an Olive Branch

Editor,

I really enjoyed the letter to the editor by Fareed Farukhi regarding the Urth Caffe’s gesture to Laguna Beach and other communities in response to the court settlement that was recently decided.

Urth Caffe opened their doors to everyone who would come in response to that court ruling and offered not just coffee and desserts but an olive branch to every person and community and made it known that they embrace their guests and will do better in the future.  That was pretty cool.

Farukhi’s letter was so well written and full of positivity. Thank you for that. There is no longer room or time for hatred in this world; we need to come together and as you wrote “It brought community together as it should be.” You embraced Urth Caffe’s offering and appreciated it enough to write to our paper.  That is so nice of you.

The late and great  (The Greatest!) coach of the UCLA Bruin basketball team, John Wooden, said “Have utmost concern for what’s right rather than who’s right.”  I could not agree more.
