Planning Commission members Anne Johnson and Susan Whitin along with resident John Thomas discussed the issue of short-term lodging in Laguna Beach at a meeting Monday, June 27, of Village Laguna, says a statement.

As a result, the organization that supports preserving village character signaled its support for an ordinance proposed in April by the Planning Commission, the statement says. That proposal would allow property owners complying with short-term rental permits to continue and grant new permits only in commercial areas.

After more than a year of discussions, the City Council is moving to enact new rules before the current moratorium on new permits expires on Oct. 1.

Another public feedback session is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 14, at the Susi Q Community Center. Changes to the proposed ordinance will be available by July 7 on the city’s website, Community Development Director Greg Pfost said June 21 at another hearing.
