Breakers split their non-league matches last week by defeating visiting Laguna Hills on Thursday, Sept. 15, 25-13, 25-21, 25-18 . Lexi McKeown led the hosts with 15 kills while Peri Brennan dished out 22 assists. The Hawks are coached by Doug Mauro ’86 making his first visit to Dugger Gym as a head coach. The Breakers lead the all-time series 32-1 with the Hawks only series win coming in 1987.

Laguna hosted Newport Harbor this past Tuesday, Sept. 20, and opened league play on Thursday, Sept. 22, with Godinez. Breakers have won 100 straight league matches dating back to 2005 and are seeking their 12th straight conference title.

 

Boys Sand Volleyball 1-0

Breakers opened the season defeating Huntington Beach 5.0 to 1.5 last Thursday, Sept. 15, in Newport.

Top team Cole Paxson and Pete Obradovich won 18-21, 21-19, 15-5; second team Sam Burgi and Enzo Sadler won 21-16, 21-15; third team Josh McManus and George Knapp won 21-11, 21-6; fourth team Ayrton Garcia and Cameron Garcia won 21-15, 21-6; fifth team Tyler Jackson and Geste Bianchi won 21-2, 21-7. Laguna’s four-man team of Paxson, Obradovich, Burgi and McManus lost 28-20.

Sept. 29, Orange Lutheran @ Grant Street Courts, Newport

Oct. 6, Saddleback Valley Christian @ Doheny

Oct. 13, St Margaret’s @ Grant Street Courts, Newport

Oct. 20, Los Alamitos @ Grant Street Courts, Newport

Breakers defeated Huntington Beach for the title in 2014 and finished runner-up to Saddleback Valley Christian last season. Format includes five, two-man matches and one, four-man match.
