Girls Volleyball (11-9, 7-0)

Breakers clinched a share of their 12th straight conference title with a pair of league sweeps last week. On Tuesday, Oct. 11, Laguna swept Godinez (8-10, 2-5) 25-8, 25-14, 25-12 winning their 18th straight match with the Grizzlies. Lucy Fontenot led the team with 13 kills, Callista Wulff added four aces, five kills and 11 digs while Elena Gillespie led the setters with 17 assists. On Thursday, Oct. 13, the Breakers stopped second place Costa Mesa 25-15, 25-19, 25-11 at the Mustang gym. Lexi McKeown dominated the hosts with 13 kills, four aces and 17 digs. Peri Brennan led the setters with four aces, seven digs and 19 assists. It was the 58th straight on-the-court victory over the Mustangs.

This past weekend the Breakers participated in the 14th annual Southern California Invitational featuring ranked teams from four states. Laguna lost to Eastlake (Chula Vista) 18-25, 25-20, 2-15; Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.) 18-25, 13-25; beat Aliso Niguel 23-25, 25-14, 15-9; in Friday’s pool play at Alliant University. On Saturday, Oct. 15, at EPIC in Poway, the Breakers lost to Valencia/Valencia 21-25, 18-25 and Bishop Montgomery 20-25, 25-27. In CIF divisions, Aliso and Valencia are Division 1, while Laguna is Division 2, and Bishop Montgomery is Division 3.

 

 

Boys Sand Volleyball 4-0

Breakers had a bye last week and faced Los Alamitos @ Grant Street Courts, Newport on Oct. 20. Playoffs begin next week once league play concludes.
