The 46th season of girls volleyball under CIF sponsorship gets underway in only three weeks when the Breakers will participate in the Queens Court Tournament on Aug. 19-20 at the 32-court American Sports Center in Anaheim. The event is considered “summer competition” so play is allowed on Sunday and does not count as part of the regular season. The first match of the 2017 season will be on Friday, Sept. 1, when Laguna will host Foothill with Shawn Patchell returning to the court at Dugger Gym to guide the Breakers after a 15-year absence. Patchell was 62-26 in four seasons from 1998-01 making the Southern Section CIF finals twice.
