Newport Humiliated – Breakers At So Cal Seeking Fourth Straight Title.

Last week Laguna won a pair of games defeating Costa Mesa 23-0 at the Mustang’s pool on Wednesday, Jan.25. Ten different Laguna players scored with Claire Sonne leading the squad with four. Alex Peros, Even Tingler, Audrey Duffy and Daniele Borelli each had three goals. Breakers only had two power play opportunities converting on both. Thea Walsh picked up the shutout with just six saves.

 

On Saturday, Laguna handed Newport Harbor one of their worst defeats all time, with a crushing 17-3 thrashing at the Laguna Community Pool. Breakers scored on their first four possessions as Aria Fischer drew an exclusion then scored on the power play off an Evan Tingler pass with less than a minute into the game. Laguna scored on their next three possessions and led 11-1 at the intermission. Aria Fischer finished with four goals, two assists and three steals . Tingler finished with two goals and four assists while Bella Baldridge had two goals three assists and two steals. Also having a great game was Alana Evans with three goals, an assist and four steals. Thea Walsh was brilliant in the cage with 16 saves including two penalty shots.

 

This weekend Laguna is seeking a record fourth straight Southern California Championship title at Irvine’s Woollett Center. This Saturday’s action for the 32-team event’s semifinals and finals should be at 10 a.m. with the championship match at 3:15. Breakers may still be without two starters with Sophia Lucas and Isabel Riches still sidelined with injuries.
