More than 1,000 moms and their teenaged daughters, members of the National Charity League, Inc. of Orange County, plan a trip this weekend to Camp Pendleton to assemble 2,500 care packages for three battalions of Marines of the 1st Division in Afghanistan

Donation proceeds of this event have already provided $10,000 in WalMart gift cards to support base families as part of the fourth annual Operation Valentine.

Mothers and daughters will also get a sample of Marine life, shown weapons shooting simulators, drill instruction and obstacle course training. More than 250 Marines will participate, including the Major Gen. Michael Regner.

Members assist 20 philanthropies in Orange County that range from Special Camp for Special Kids and the J.F. Shea Therapeutic Riding Center, to Habitat for Humanity and South County Senior Service Centers.
