The city’s HIV Advisory Board is gearing up for World AIDS Day, today, Thursday, Dec. 1, an annual day of reflection in honor of those who have died of AIDS.
Laguna will offer a Main Beach health fair and sunset vigil at 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. service at Neighborhood Congregational Church, 340 St. Ann’s Dr.
Representatives of the HIV Advisory Committee, AIDS Services Foundation, Laguna Beach Shanti, Laguna Drug and Laguna Beach Community Clinic will be on hand at the Main Beach cobblestones for a 3-5 p.m. health fair, offering educational information, anonymous HIV testing, free flu shots and counseling.
More than 500 residents have died from AIDS, said Michelle Sherman, a committee member and consultant to Laguna Drug, a pharmacy that specializes in HIV drugs.
For those who prefer testing at the Laguna Beach Community Clinic itself, no appointment is needed Tuesday through Saturday.
