The 35 artists painting throughout Laguna Beach’s coastal canyons and scenic coves as part of the Plein Air Painters Association invitational will compete for a $10,000 best in show award at the Afternoon Collectors’ Soirée, Saturday, Oct. 18.
The gala and public sale the following day, Sunday, Oct. 19, takes place in a vast tent on the parking lot of The Ranch, 31106 S. Coast Highway.
Other original works created throughout the week-long stay by the visiting artists will also be available for purchase at the soiree, where 400 expected guests can meet the artists, dine on cuisine by Chef Cameron Woods and enjoy the grooves of the Global Beat Foundation. Five guest artists, John Cosby, Kathleen Dunphy, Kim Lordier, Joe Paquet and Jesse Powell, were also invited to display their work.
Tickets to the Soirée are $150 per person, and may be purchased online at LPAPA’s website, lagunapleinair.org. Complimentary valet parking is provided.
On Sunday, the general public is invited to view the exhibit. And next week, Oct. 14-19, artwork created by local students as part of the invitational’s educational outreach effort is on display at OneLaguna, 225 Forest Ave.
The outdoor painters have a good range of painting as their imagination is opened up to a maximum. It gives them freshness to think.
