A Better Use for $500,000

This letter was also addressed to the ACLU.

So we, the small town of 24,000 people that every night provides shelter and services for 45 homeless people, is not doing enough. Laguna Beach, “the little engine that could,” through city and private financing, is currently the only one of the O.C.’s 34 cities that does this year-round.

“Not enough” you say. So your incentive to get generous, compassionate Laguna Beach to do more for the homeless population is to bring yet another lawsuit against us? This in turn has caused our city to set aside $500,000 to mount a legal defense against ACLU’s charges.

Would not that money be more effectively deployed by providing direct service to the homeless rather than fighting your self-righteous lawyers? Just asking…
