LBHS Athletes Receive Honors

Laguna Beach High School students Halie Redfearn and John Grayden were recently named students of the month by LBHS athletic department and are being honored by Laguna Rotary Club.

Redfearn is the MVP for varsity softball and JV tennis. She was also league MVP and received the Coach’s Award for softball, soccer and golf. Redfearn intends to study chemistry at UC Berkley this fall.

Grayden served as captain of the golf team and played varsity for four years. He was also OC Athlete of the Year in 2013 and 2014. Grayden plans to study engineering at Purdue University.

Correction:Halie Redfean’s athletic accomplishments are inaccurately described in this article. In 2015 Jennifer Sorenson received recognition as MVP for the Laguna Beach High softball team and was named  to the Orange Coast  League all-league team.

 

Pool, Tennis Courts Close for Repairs

Repairs to retaining walls near the high school tennis courts on Park Avenue is underway and will result in the closure of two courts for two months.  Additionally, the high school and community pool will be closed for repairs through Wednesday, June 10.

Portions of the sidewalk and on-street parking along Park Avenue will also be closed during construction.

 

Waiting for the Waves at Brooks Street

The waiting period for the 52nd Brooks Street Surf Contest begins on Friday, June 5.

Between now and the end of September the “window” is open to hold the contest, touted as the oldest surfing classic in the world.

This year, the contest “window” will include Fridays in addition to Saturday and Sunday to increase the likelihood the event will occur.

Galaxy Stars Juggle at Thurston

The L.A. Galaxy Futboleros, who entertain at halftime during Galaxy home games, take their juggling act out of the stadium to Thurston Middle School from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 6.

The Futboleros juggling demonstrations is part of AYSO Laguna Beach’s family fun soccer day.

Participants of any age will have the opportunity to play soccer, score a few goals and be entertained.

“We’re so excited about our first soccer celebration event. I can’t wait to show our small community how much AYSO has to offer our soccer families.” said Jamie Henrichsen, newly elected Regional Commissioner for Laguna Beach.

Everyone who registers at the event receives a free gift, and first-time registrants should also bring their birth certificate or passport to verify their age.

Shaved ice, face painters, balloon artist and a bounce house will be apart of the soccer celebration.

The American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) Laguna Beach Region 86 was established in 1976 and has been providing quality soccer for nearly 40 years. Region 86 is an AYSO Gold Region and a member of the nationally recognized Area 11L.

Laguna Beach Region 86 provides soccer to any child ages 4 through 18-years-old and offers programs during fall, winter and spring. Now recently offering soccer as early as 3 years old through our Playtime Adventure program.
