Two people died and a third suffered minor injuries in a head-on collision that resulted in the partial closure of Laguna Canyon Road early Tuesday, April 2, disrupting the routines of early morning commuters, police said.

The road, closed between El Toro Road and state Highway 73, is expected to reopen this afternoon after the conclusion of the accident investigation, police Sgt. Louise Callus said.

The two fatalities were occupants in one vehicle, she said. The driver of the other vehicle was transported for treatment to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, she said.

Details about the cause of the 6:43 a.m. collision are still under investigation, said Callus. She also declined to provide any identifying information about the deceased, except to describe them as adults.
