Breakers Edge San Juan Hills 3-2
Laguna completed the 39th Annual Anaheim Lions Tournament with a victory Wednesday, April 3, at Brookhurst Field in Anaheim as Jackson Ress won his sixth of the season, scattering seven hits and striking out five.
The victory marked Laguna’s best showing ever in the Spring Break tournament and extended their current win streak to 11, third longest in school history. The 2011 squad ran streaks of 14 and 13 games en route to a 27-3 record season. The 2013 teams is on-track to break that victory string with 10 league games remaining.
Laguna took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning off an Adam Rodner sacrifice fly
scoring Blake Hester. Laguna extended the lead to 3-0 in the third inning when Steven Harrison blasted a two-run double scoring Grant Wilhelm and Robbie McInerny. San Juan picked up runs in the fourth and sixth inning but Laguna was able to snuff game-breaking rally attempts as Breakers once again made some great plays in the infield to secure the win over a well-coached Stallion team (10-8) that would not fold.
Breakers will host a very competitive Estancia team (10-5, 3-2) on Tuesday, April 9, 3:15 p.m. at Skipper Carrillo Field. You can check out Laguna’s player and team statistics at www.maxpreps.com.
