I was glad to read in the last issue that the LBPD recently received a state grant for preventing traffic deaths and injuries (“LBPD Awarded Grant,” Nov. 23 edition). I found it a bit ironic that the photo illustrating the article is of a collision at the Emerald Bay entrance in North Laguna, since earlier this year the City Council refused to approve a traffic light for that very same intersection which would have prevented similar accidents in the future.
Perhaps the new grant will increase awareness of the dangers on Coast Highway sufficiently for the city to have a change of heart in the future.
