A homeless person suffered severe injuries last Saturday, Nov. 3, when struck by a vehicle while crossing Coast Highway outside of a crosswalk near Laguna Beach’s Three Arch Bay community, police said Monday.

The injured person, who was not further identified, was transported to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo for treatment, Capt. Jason Kravetz said.

The elderly driver from Illinois, who lives part-time in Dana Point, was not charged in the 7:07 p.m. incident. Neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to be involved, Kravetz said.

Police Arrest Suspected Drug Dealer

Law enforcement authorities who served search warrants at homes in Hawthorne on Friday, Nov. 2 arrested a suspected drug dealer and seized $229,000 in cash, cars, a handgun and an illicit drug cache of undetermined value.

The warrants were obtained following an investigation tied to a case in Laguna Beach begun several months ago and executed with Hawthorne police and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, Kravetz said Monday,

At one location, thousands of prescription pain pills, ecstasy and marijuana were found, said in a statement by police.

Kevin Odel Lott, 42, of Hawthorne, was charged with allegedly possessing drugs for sales, possession of ecstasy and being a felon in possession of handguns, police said. Detectives also seized two Mercedes, a Chevy Tahoe and a Dodge Charger.

It is believed that the cash and cars were all obtained through interstate drug trafficking, Kravetz said.
