Adding Recycled Water to Canyon Improvements

Editor,

Laguna Beach remains the only South County city without a comprehensive, sustainable recycled water program. We need to protect our great park, the Laguna Greenbelt, with adequate routine irrigation and fire suppression systems.

Undergrounding utilities in Laguna Canyon is the time to add recycled water to downtown, festival grounds, municipal facilities, etc.

Multiple grants, 0% loans and new revenues support recycled water during California’s prolonged drought and on-going wildfire season.

Every gallon of recycled water means less secondary sewage discharged to the ocean just 1.2 miles off of Laguna and reduces pollutants returning to the coast from ocean upwelling. Reducing ocean discharges enhances essential fish habitat (EFH) and protects water quality for migrating California grey whales and resident coastal dolphins.

When do medium term goals become now?
