Inside the Outdoors’ staff takes advantage of TLC’s environment.

Children who are members of the Boys & Girls Club’s TLC Branch in Bluebird Park participated in a pilot environmental education program that goes beyond the ABC’s.

Instead students learned about the five R’s: reduce, reuse, recycle, repurpose and rot, curriculum aligned with state science and social science standards and created for Inside the Outdoors. Its Traveling Scientist program is administered by the county Department of Education. The TLC Branch was selected to participate in this one-of-a-kind program.

Children were shown a repurposed backpack made out of Kool-Aid pouches and learned that rotting can be great when it’s used for compost to help gardens grow.
