Letter: More Parking Lots?

City Council is planning to add more parking lots in town. They hired a consultant to make a list of potential places to store cars. The assumption is this will help relieve auto congestion. That concept started in the late 1930s. This is called auto-centric land planning. From my prospective, suburbia is creepy. City council will talk about this on June 13.

  1. The vested interests who monetize Laguna through tourist businesses and real estate investments control this town. These vested interests believe that their financial well being is augmented by increases in visitors. Nothing will stop them from pursuing whatever facilitates this desired outcome. The rest of us who don’t monetize Laguna, but indeed, pay hefty property taxes to live here quietly, are forced to subsidize the vested interests’ pursuit of greater monetary gains. These parking structures are part of the plans to increase tourism and hence to maximize their monetization of Laguna.
