It would be a missed opportunity for Laguna Beach if Alex Rounaghi is not elected this November.
It is infrequent that a political candidate, regardless of age, is so well-equipped for public office as Alex. As a policy advisor for Supervisor Katrina Foley, he has advanced initiatives like an innovative Fly Friendly program to reduce noise and pollution from John Wayne Airport, cracked down on illegal sober living home operators, and conducted oversight over the County’s $8 billion dollar plus budget. He has also served on two Laguna Beach City Council committees – Parking & Traffic and Housing & Human Services – so knows how our town operates in a way many people who run for office do not.
Alex has received an incredible amount of endorsements (the only candidate endorsed by both our Police and Firefighters) because he is capable of effective political leadership. He has the patience and perseverance to accomplish the trying work of negotiation and governance. He has both a strong viewpoint and the capacity to hear other opinions. And his integrity is exceptional.
I would like to add my name to his list of supporters.

Why would it be such a tragedy if Alex doesn’t get elected this time? Im not voting for Alex this time. I mean God willing; he still has a lot of time on this earth and maybe could gain some actual life experience. As far as his experience with Katrina Foley, let’s face it, it is his mother that got him every political internship or job. He didn’t just lift himself up from his bootstraps, his mother represents votes. Would you still call that experience? It’s okay, we should use all the resources we have but living at home still?
I have raised 2 boys who were 24 and known their friends at 24. There is no way I want a 24 yr. old in charge of the city’s $122M budget esp. a 24 yr. old who lives at home, has never had to pay a mortgage or rent, made a family budget, been responsible for his daily life and one who has never had a real job with a company. His experience is solely with government and it looks like that is the path he is on – having the public support him. We are looking at another career politician who will never understand what making a payroll, running a business and being responsible for employees is all about. Thanks but I’m taking a pass on the 24 yr. old kid who thinks he knows how to run things.
I’ve worked for mayors in five major cities in the U.S. I have a Masters Degree in Public Policy from Pepperdine. As an Orange County Venture Capitalist, I’ve started five companies that were succesful. And I’m a major client of Stradling – So I CAN TELL YOU that this kid is an amateur and we can’t work with him. Sympathy votes will be counted in the dozens on November 8th, and then he can add “Candidate For Laguna Beach City Council” to his, otherwise padded, resume. Good Bye.
