Phyllis Doolittle

Phyllis Eleanor Miller Doolittle passed away on July 30 in Columbus, Ohio. She was 88.

Born in Hagerstown, Md., daughter of Margaret Helen Clipp Miller and Jay C. Miller, she graduated from Hagerstown High in Maryland and Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. (Class of 1948).

Travel agent, realtor, and enthusiastic school teacher, she and her beloved husband of 46 years, Kent Doolittle, of Gambier, Ohio, respected life by living it to its fullest, living in Laguna Beach, Maui, and Palm Desert.

After his death in 2000, she moved to Columbus, once again surrounded by family and friends to the end.

Known as “Phe” to many, she was bright, funny, forthright, and adored. She is survived by her sister, Donna Miller Porterfield Taylor of Columbus, Ohio; her niece, Wendy Modjeski of Lexington (Ron); nephews Scott Porterfield of Chicago (Susie Griffith), Jeff Porterfield of Columbus (Aaron), and Todd Porterfield of New York (Benoît Bolduc); as well as 10 great nieces and nephews, and two great great nieces.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in memory of Phyllis Miller Doolittle to: The Skidmore College Scholarship Fund; and to the Friends of the Laguna Beach Library.

  1. PM me if interested I have been researching alot and have familiarized myself w many of the local rescues. Else try shelters as well, you ll be surprised at what a bath and grooming will do for these babies so try and keep open minded when you go. At the end of the day as long as we are promoting adoption of these fur babies I guess everyone is on the same page, just wish they could be a bit more cordial to the humans!
