Laguna Playhouse’s final show of the season, “Buyer and Cellar,” starring Emerson Collins, will open on Saturday, June 4, and run through Sunday, June 26.

Alex takes a job working in the Malibu basement “shopping mall” of “Funny Girl” megastar Barbara Streisand in the comedy about the price of fame, the cost of things, and the oddest of odd jobs.

Kick Off Summer with an Art Mystery

Bare Bones Theater presents “Bakersfield Mist,” in a one-night only performance with actors Ava Burton and Mark Miller on Monday, June 6, at Sandra Jones Campbell Studio, 2173 Laguna Canyon Road. Doors open at 7 p.m.

Burton’s character Maude has found a painting at a Bakersfield thrift shop that she’s sure is a Jackson Pollock. When an art expert arrives to make a determination of authenticity, he finds Maude to be the real masterpiece.

Laguna Beach Live will present the eighth Bluegrass & BBQ festival from 3-7 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, beneath the oaks at the Laguna College of Art & Design, 2222 Laguna Canyon Road.

The Arizona-based, four-member band The Sonoran Dogs will headline the festival playing traditional bluegrass standards, Americana, folk, and Celtic arrangements. “Signing them was a coup,” said Laguna Beach Live! executive director Lucinda Prewitt.

Opening for the Sonoran Dogs will be local Laguna band The Dupp Brothers, Morgan Burrell, Rob Boyd, Steve Belkin, Chuck Pierce, Daniel Blank and Richie Uhl.

Concert tickets $10-$25 and barbeque tickets also $10-$25 are on sale now at 800-595-4849 or www.lagunabeachlive.org. VIP tickets, $100 are available in advance only and include reserved table seating, concert and barbecue.

General admission includes seating on a first-come, first-served basis. Chairs are provided. No outside food or beverages will be permitted.

Limited parking is available at LCAD. A free trolley will run between LCAD and free parking at ACT V, 1900 Laguna Canyon Road, from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m.

 

Bowie Tribute Joins Serenades Line Up

A free concert tribute to David Bowie will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 3 featuring at the Heisler Park Amphitheatre.

The extra performance to the city-sponsored Sunset Serenade line-up was due to an earlier cancellation.

 

Revisit Rock ‘n’ Roll

Rock Through the Ages, a free concert by the Laguna Tunes Community Chorus, takes place at 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 12 at the Laguna Beach High School Artists’ Theatre, 625 Park Avenue.

The 60-member chorus led by Bob Gunn will perform classics spanning six decades, from Elvis Presley to Van Halen.

Laguna Beach Live! Jazz Series Begins

Laguna Beach Live! resumes its outdoor jazz series in the Hotel Laguna rose garden Wednesday, June 22, with Homenaje, an Afro-Cuban world jazz ensemble.

The 6 p.m. concerts on the gazebo stage continue every two weeks: Tim Gill and his vintage jazz group featuring special guest Adryón DeLeon, July 6; straight Ahead Jazz guitarist Graham Dechter with Katie Thiroux and Matt Witek, July 20; Lao Tizer’s contemporary jazz quartet, Aug. 3; Besos de Coco with special guest Robert Dove on winds, Aug. 17; and Dave Damiani and The Investigators with special guest Bijon Watson on trumpet, Aug. 31.

Tickets on Sale for Dana Point Music Fest

A line-up that includes Eddie Vedder, Lana Del Rey, Elvis Costello, Band of Horses, City and Colour and others is planned at the inaugural Ohana Festival Aug. 27 and 28 at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point.

A portion of proceeds will be donated to the San Onofre Parks Foundation, working to preserve California’s coastal parks.

Tickets are $99.50 a day, or a weekend pass at $195. Purchase at www.TheOhanaFest.com.

Beverages and food trucks will be available all day long.
