Santa Ana Man Arrested for Assault, Wielding Weapon at Sandpiper

On Sunday, Jan. 19, around 1:30 a.m., Laguna Beach Police officers responded to The Sandpiper for a subject who brandished a knife and was being held on the ground by bouncers.

Gustavo Orozco, 23, of Santa Ana, was reportedly kicked out of the Sandpiper, and once outside, he allegedly pulled a pocket knife from his shorts and extended the blade. Orozco then began walking toward the bouncers, waving the knife. The bouncers grabbed a nearby stool and used it to push Orozco to the ground, allowing them to get the knife away from him.

LBPD arrived on scene and the detained Orozco. While in a seated position, Orozco appeared to lose consciousness and Laguna Beach Fire was requested. During treatment by LBFD, Orozco became upset and spit twice at an officer and struck his head against a parked vehicle.

Orozco was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon ($25,000 bail), brandishing a weapon ($20,000 bail), and assault. He was transported to Mission Hospital-Laguna Beach via ambulance for a medical clearance prior to booking.
