Teen Assaulted on Beach

A 16-year-old Laguna Beach boy was detained by police and taken to Juvenile Hall late Tuesday after an acquaintance reported he had sexually assaulted her on the beach in front of a downtown hotel, police said.

The 19-year-old victim, also a Laguna resident, reported the assault at 9:29 p.m. Investigators are requesting multiple charges, including rape, sodomy and penetration with a foreign object, Lt. Jason Kravetz said.

 

Two Pedestrians Struck in Crosswalk

Two pedestrians suffered injuries crossing Coast Highway at Brooks Street when struck by a vehicle Sunday evening, a collision recorded in its entirety by a police vehicle behind the car that failed to stop.

A 26-year-old male suffered a broken leg and his 21-year-old female companion scrapes and bruises as a result of the 6:50 p.m. collision, Kravetz said. Both are Orange residents, he said.

While neither drugs nor alcohol were believed involved and the 40-year-old driver, a Los Angeles woman, was not cited, the incident is still under investigation, Kravetz said.

 

Lewd Conduct Arrest at Library

Joseph Clarence Cormier II, 46, of Laguna Beach, was arrested at the public library for suspicion of lewd conduct and possession of less than one ounce of marijuana last Saturday, police said.

A citizen sitting next to Cormier at the public computers in the library saw him playing with himself and looking at pornography online, Kravetz said. The citizen came to the police department at 2:27 p.m. to report the incident personally and accompanied officers to the library, where he identified Cormier, police said.

 

Vacationer Returns to Burglarized Home

Residents in the 300 block of Ledroit Street, returning home after the Thanksgiving weekend on Sunday evening, found their front door open and the contents of their home ransacked, police said.

The loss was $15,000 in men’s watches, Kravetz said. The point of entry was not determined.

 

Phone-Talking Driver Flips Car

A solo driver flipped her vehicle on Laguna Canyon Road last Tuesday after striking a tree while talking on the phone, according to police.

While at the hospital being treated for minor injuries, Amanda Christine Garza, 26, of Irvine, was cited for suspicion of drunk driving and released, Kravetz said.

Initial callers reported a wrong way driver that had struck parked cars, though preliminary investigation shows Garza struck a tree in the center divider near Canyon Acres Drive, Kravetz said.

Encampment. 6:31 a.m. Crescent Bay Dr. An officer found a homeless encampment in a business parking lot on Coast Highway. The 51-year-old Laguna Beach resident and property owner was issued a citation for illegal lodging.

Disturbance. 2:47 p.m. 600 block of S. Coast Hwy. After receiving a report of a man throwing property around, police arrested a 24-year-old Riverside resident for an outstanding vehicle-code warrant of $25,000.

Traffic stop. 4:21 p.m. 1300 block of N. Coast Hwy. A 36-year-old Irvine man was arrested for an outstanding warrant for driving with a suspended license.

Petty theft. 4:24 p.m. 800 block of Coast View Dr. Someone stole a purse from an unlocked car.

Traffic stop. 10:23 p.m. A 23-year-old San Juan Capistrano man was arrested for suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia.

Traffic stop. 11:36 p.m. Glenneyre St. A 38-year-old Newport Beach man was arrested for DUI and held for $2,500 bail.

Traffic stop. 2:09 a.m. Ruby St. A 44-year-old San Juan Capistrano man was cited for DUI and held for $2,500 bail.

 

Thursday, Nov. 24

Foot patrol. 12:31 a.m. Oak St. A Monarch Beach resident, 25, was cited for less than a gram of cocaine and held for $20,000 bail.

DUI. 1:17 a.m. Laguna Canyon Rd. Richard David Kohlmeyer, 35, of Laguna Beach, was cited for DUI and held for $10,000 bail because it was his second offense. A motorist reported a driver weaving behind him.

Suspicious. 2:23 a.m. Mountain Rd. A Nashville resident, 23, was arrested for DUI and held for $2,500 bail.

 

Friday, Nov. 25

Fraud. 6:22 a.m. N. Stonington Rd. A suspect removed $600 from the victim’s bank account via online banking.

DUI. 6:04 p.m. Emerald Bay. A 50-year-old Aliso Viejo resident was arrested for DUI and held for $2,500 bail.

 

Saturday, Nov. 26

Traffic stop. 12:16 a.m. 200 block of Thalia St. A 20-year-old Laguna Niguel woman was arrested for DUI and held for $2,500 bail.

Illegal parking. 2:24 a.m. Coast Hwy. A 31-year-old Sacramento woman was arrested for DUI and held for $2,500 bail.

Traffic stop. 3:10 a.m. 100 block of Mountain Rd. A 22-year-old Modesto man was arrested for DUI and held for $2,500 bail.

Traffic stop. 11:36 p.m. 400 block of Forest Ave. Maria Del Carmen Pardo, 29, of La Puente, was arrested for suspicion of DUI and held for $10,000 bail due to a prior offense.

 

Sunday, Nov. 27

Traffic  stop. 1:34 a.m. Thalia St. A 21-year-old Van Nuys woman was arrested for DUI and held for $2,500 bail.

Traffic stop. 2:42 a.m. Third St. Shereen Jehan Usmani, 35, of Tustin, was arrested for suspicion of drunk driving and resisting arrest. This was her second DUI arrest, which resulted in a $10,000 bail.

DUI. 12:29 p.m. 20500 block of Laguna Canyon Rd. A 47-year-old Laguna Beach woman was arrested for DUI and held for $2,500 bail.

Traffic stop. 8:46 p.m. 500 block of S. Coast Hwy. A 41-year-old Texas man, driving a black Volvo with no license plates, sped away at speeds exceeding 85 mph after police tried to stop him in the area of Brooks and South Coast Highway. The officer detained the driver at gunpoint until back up arrived. He told the officers he was rushing to help his ill girlfriend. He was issued a misdemeanor citation and released at the scene.
