Tools Brandished in Assault Attempt
A worker at a condominium complex in the 31400 block of Coast Highway was arrested for suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon last Thursday, Dec. 22, police said.
Jorge Luis Frias, 44, allegedly cornered a man in the complex’s elevator, threatening to strike him with a hammer and stab him with a screwdriver, said Sgt. Louise Callus. The victim fled when the elevator doors opened, she said.
Frias, who denied involvement and refused to talk with officers, was arrested for assault and making terrorist threats, she said. Bail was set at $50,000.
Monday, Dec. 19
Traffic stop. 4:21 p.m. 1000 block of Laguna Canyon Rd. Officers arrested a 48-year-old Dana Point man and his passenger for outstanding warrants after pulling over the vehicled for registration violations.
Tuesday, Dec. 20
Traffic stop. 1:20 a.m. 700 block of S. Coast Hwy. A Mission Viejo man celebrating his birthday on the eve of his 25th year was arrested for driving after imbibing. He faced a $2,500 bail.
Suspicious circumstances. 7:46 a.m. 400 block of Arroyo Chico. A woman reported that a Cox Communications subcontractor behaved inappropriately.
Vehicle burglary. 3 p.m. 500 block of S. Coast Hwy. A wallet, iPad and other valuables totaling $1,300 were stolen. There were no signs of forced entry.
Theft. 4:28 p.m. 300 block of Broadway St. A Casio keyboard was taken from outside a thrift store.
Wednesday, Dec. 21
Traffic stop. 3 a.m. Glenneyre St. A 25-year-old San Juan Capistrano man was arrested for DUI and held for $2,500 bail.
Thursday, Dec. 22
Traffic stop. 12:36 a.m. Rockledge. A 21-year-old Laguna Niguel woman was arrested for DUI and held for $2,500 bail.
Fraud. 9:57 a.m. 3300 Laguna Canyon Rd. A customer intentionally wrote a $2,000 check on a closed account.
Traffic collision. 4:27 p.m. Canyon Acres Drive. An outbound motorcyclist ran a red light and collided with a truck making a legal left hand turn. The cyclist suffered minor injuries and was transported for treatment.
Friday, Dec. 23
Traffic stop. 12:44 a.m. Wesley Drive. A 27-year-old Fountain Valley man was arrested for DUI and held for $2,500 bail.
Traffic stop. 2 a.m. Glenneyre St. Shayne William Monahan, 52, of Laguna Beach, was arrested for suspicion of DUI. He was held for $10,000 bail due to a prior offense.
Traffic stop. 3:28 p.m. 300 block of Broadway St. A 47-year-old local man was arrested for DUI and held for $2,500 bail.
Traffic stop. 8:55 p.m. Montage Resort Dr. A 43-year-old San Clemente man was arrested for DUI and held for $2,500 bail.
