Local high school senior and comedic actor Elan Kramer won the best actor award Sunday at the annual MACY awards, which recognizes stand-out performances among high school theater productions.

Elan’s friends among the Park Avenue Players also picked up an armful of awards, recognized individually for their performances in “Into the Woods” and “The Sound of Music.”

As a result of the accomplishment, Elan earns a trip to New York to compete for best high school actor in the nation.

Several schools performed four-minute segments from this year’s productions at the ceremony, which took place at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts. Laguna won against Huntington Beach’s Academy of the Performing Arts, Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, and Orange County High School of the Arts.

“The Park Avenue Players had an unforgettable Sunday afternoon!” said Mark Dressler, the performing arts department chair.
