Student Shows Brighten the Season

The high school’s theater will present several crowd-pleasing concerts before the winter break, starting with the dance department’s performance.

The 7:30 p.m. show, Dec. 12-14 at the Artists’ Theatre, showcases the work of guest choreographers directed by high school dance teacher Lisa Jay.

Professional choreographers include Leann Alduenda, Erika Fernandez, Darrien Henning, Kathy Kahn and Michael Perez. Madeline Shirley, who graduated in June, also joins the list of guest choreographers.

Tickets are $8 for students and seniors, $15 for adults.

The Thurston Middle School and LBHS winter instrumental concert tunes up Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m.

TMS instrumental music teacher, Jon Mann, will conduct the middle school’s string orchestra, sixth grade band and concert band. LBHS instrumental music teacher, Jeremy Chung, will conduct the high school’s wind ensemble and string ensemble.

Thurston’s concert band will also performs at City Hall during Hospitality Night, Friday, Dec. 6 from 5:30-6 p.m.

On Thursday, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. the winter choral and jazz concert will feature student performers from LBHS and Thurston directed by Roxanna Ward. The Thurston Junior Jazz Ensemble and the LBHS Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of instrumental music teacher Roger Shew, will be performing holiday classics as well as selections from Charles Mingus, Dizzy Gillespie and Cannonball Adderley.

The LBHS string ensemble as well as other student groups hold performances over the next two weeks.
