Over 20 Laguna Beach Girl Scouts participated in the 30th annual Girl Scout Golden Gate Bridging event in San Francisco earlier this month.
These Junior Girl Scouts walked more than a mile across the Golden Gate Bridge to symbolize their bridging from the Junior to the Cadette level of Girl Scouting. Bridging is a traditional Girl Scout celebration of accomplishments where Scouts make the transition from the younger girl to the older girl program.
Girls from Troops 1440, 308, 1250 and 714 under the leadership of Jennifer Baker, Stephanie Masaki-Schatz, Diana Cimino, Christy Perales and Gina Borelli made the walk with over 5,000 Girl Scouts from over 13 states.
“This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our troop,” said Baker. “Our journey across the bridge was so meaningful as we took in the natural beauty of the ocean, the mountains, and the bay with thousands of other girls all participating in this symbolic Girl Scout event.”
Girls prepared over 100 SWAPS each to trade at the event. Many girls earned all of their travel expenses by selling hundreds of boxes of cookies over the past two years, including collecting donations to send cookies to our troops overseas.
