Laguna Beach activist and decorated Vietnam veteran Michael Beanan led several veterans’ initiatives and programs as assistant dean of students at UC Irvine from 1973-78. Anne Frank established the UCI library Southeast Asian archive. And political science professor emeritus Jim Danzinger served as a former UCI dean of undergraduate education and former chair of the Academic Senate.

The local residents are among 100 people recognized in a new exhibit for their contributions to campus history over five decades. “UCI Stories: 50th Anniversary Oral History Project” opened in UCI’s Langson Library this week and will be on display through September.

Another local, Robert Cohen, an emeritus drama professor and a founding faculty member, was to speak at an opening reception this week.

The exhibit highlights the school’s past and future through the memories, reflections, and predictions of its community.
