Former LAM Director Making Waves at Surfing Foundation
The Surfing Heritage Foundation has hired Bolton Colburn, former director of Laguna Art Museum, as their new executive director. Colburn, 56, who left his position at Laguna Art Museum in May 2011, plans to work with the foundation’s board and staff to lead development efforts and raise the profile of the Surfing Heritage Foundation in the museum world.
Rumors had long been circulating that the Surfing Heritage Foundation was courting Colburn, who admits that, “The job that the board has sketched out for me is my dream job.”
The mission of the non-profit institution, which opened in San Clemente in 2004, is to preserve, present, and promote surfing’s heritage for the appreciation and education of current and future generations. Housed in an 8,000 square foot building located at 110 Calle Iglesia in San Clemente, it is open to the public and boasts a large collection of about 500 surfboards and 250,000 photographs; as well as an extensive archive including film, literature, clothing and other artifacts representing surfing culture.

Chamber Brings the Spirit of Laguna to Residents
The Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce selected their nominees for the 2011 Spirit of Laguna awards at their December board of directors meeting, and the winners, as well as the Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce member of the year, will be announced at the meeting for the installation of the new board of directors on Friday, Jan. 27, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Tivoli Too!, 777 Laguna Canyon Rd.
The three nominees for each of 12 categories are as follows:
